BYU's Kyle Collinsworth cleared to return to action after ACL surgery

BYU junior guard Kyle Collinsworth, the team's second-leading scorer, leading rebounder and assist-man last season, has been cleared by medical staff to return to game action, the team announced Thursday. He'll play in Saturday’s exhibition against Seattle Pacific.

The 6-foot-6 guard tore the ACL in his right knee back in March, in the West Coast Conference championship game against Gonzaga. He had season-ending surgery as the Cougars, without him, lost to Oregon in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He's been rehabbing all offseason.

Coach Dave Rose and his staff will reportedly monitor Collinsworth’s minutes during Saturday’s exhibition and the early part of the regular season.

Named to the All-WCC First Team in 2013-14, Collinsworth averaged 14 points per game on 49.7 percent shooting and 36.4 percent from beyond the arc. His 8.1 rebounds per game ranked second in the conference, and his 4.6 assists and 1.7 steals were both third.

He was one of just two players in the NCAA to be ranked among the top 100 in rebounds, assists and steals.
