Rick Pitino: Son Richard 'seriously' considered taking Alabama job
Louisville men's basketball coach Rick Pitino appeared on "The Jim Rome Show" on Wednesday and the two discussed, among other things, Pitino's son Richard's courtship with Alabama.
Pitino said his son was "seriously considering" taking the Alabama job.
"But he called me up and said, ‘You know, Dad, Alabama is a great job but I don’t deserve it,'" Rick said, as transcribed by Rob Dauster of College Basketball Talk. "You know what, for a 32-year-old, that's about as proud as I can be as a dad. He was just so humble. He said, 'I haven't done enough to warrant any move, or even consider any move.' He said, 'We've got a tough rebuilding job here at Minnesota and I'm going to get it done.'"
Alabama let head coach Anthony Grant go in March and eventually replaced him with former NBA head coach Avery Johnson.
The younger Pitino recently completed his second season as head coach at Minnesota, where he has compiled a 43-28 record.
