Report: Rysheed Jordan of St. John's to be ruled academically ineligible
Chris Mullin has hardly been on the job a minute and he's already being dealt some bad luck.
The new head coach at St. John's is set to receive some unfortunate news shortly, as Rysheed Jordan is expected to be ruled academically ineligible to play for the fall semester. This comes according to a report from New York Daily News, who also report that it's possible Jordan may already have played his final game for the Red Storm.
It remains feasible Jordan can make up enough academic ground for a mid-December return, but there's also a chance he opts to turn pro. While he's not currently on the radar for the 2016 NBA Draft, he could opt for a turn in the D-League to improve his draft standing or head overseas for a more appreciable payday.
A 6-foot-4 point guard, Jordan would have been the team's leading returning scorer. As a sophomore, he averaged 14.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.7 steals while hitting 36.4 percent of his 3-point attempts.
The former five-star recruit was believed to be a risk to leave the program before the team switched coaches but ultimately opted to give the Mullin era a chance. The Red Storm may end up just fine at the point, with four-star recruit Marcus LoVett having just been added to the roster for 2015.
