Oregon State hires UCF athletic director Todd Stansbury
Todd Stansbury is returning to his old stomping grounds.
The current UCF athletic director has been hired for the same role at Oregon State, the Beavers announced on Thursday.
The news was first announced by Orlando Sentinel's Matt Murschel and Mike Bianchi.
"Todd will be an excellent and effective contributor to the remarkable transformation that is occurring throughout Oregon State as the university continues to strive for excellence in the classroom, on the field of competition and in our service impact to Oregon, the nation and world," said school president Ed Ray. "Good is not good enough at Oregon State University."
Before working at Oregon State, Stansbury worked in athletics administration at Georgia Tech, as assistant athletic director; Houston, as associate athletic director; and East Tennessee State, as director of athletics.
After serving the Beavers for nine years as the executive associate athletic director, Stansbury joined the Knights in March of 2012.
"Todd has obviously done a lot of good things here," said UCF football coach George O'Leary, according to the Sentinel, "but he's going back to where he came from and Oregon State is a Power 5 school. I can certainly see the enticement of him wanting to take the job."
During Stansbury's tenure with UCF, the school went from being with the Conference USA to the American Athletic Conference.
Bob De Carolis announced early in May that he was leaving his position as Oregon State's athletic director after 13 years. De Carolis has been battling Parkinson's disease.
In the release, obtained by the Sentinel, president Ray detailed his criteria for the next hire:
"Our new athletic director will add to the success of Oregon State's men's and women’s athletics and grow fan excitement and engagement. He or she will be committed to our student-athletes and to all OSU students. The new director will contribute to the remarkable transformation that is occurring at Oregon State where everything we do is about excellence and leadership."
