NCAA extends basketball family travel expense program for 1 year
The NCAA will provide travel expenses to families attending men's and women's basketball semifinals and finals for another year.
Both the Division I Men's and Women's Basketball Oversight Commitees recommended extending the one-year pilot program that was implemented during the 2015 championship, according to a statement released by the organization. The recommendation passed the Council vote.
As it did last championship, organization will pay up to $3,000 in travel, hotel, and meals in total for the family of student-athletes participating in the Final Four. If the student-athlete advances to the championship games, the NCAA will cover up to $4,000 in expenses. The individual schools decided how and when the funds are distributed.
Football is looking to get in on the action as well, with the Division I Football Oversight Committee recommending extending the pilot program for the College Football Playoff another year.
The Football Championship Subdivision Subcommittee will review the recommendation and report back to the Football Oversight Committee in September.
