Add another weapon to Kevin Ollie's war chest.
Alterique Gilbert, a top-25 recruit in the class of 2016, told CBS Sports that he committed to Connecticut on Saturday.
The 6-foot-1 point guard was ranked 23rd on the ESPN 100. Hailing from Lithonia, Ga., Gilbert is described as a "beastly" floor general in ESPN's scouting report, with "tremendous strength, quickness, and speed."
Gilbert drew offers from several top programs, including Illinois, Louisville, Syracuse, and Texas, but ultimately chose UConn for the fit.
"I picked UConn because of my relationship with coach Kevin Ollie," Gilbert said. "I feel like I fit the program perfectly."
In 2016-17, Gilbert should see plenty of action alongside guard Jalen Adams, who was also a top-100 recruit.
