Duke vs. North Carolina: A rivalry by the numbers
The most storied rivalry in college basketball resumes Wednesday night, as Duke takes on North Carolina from Chapel Hill at 9 p.m. ET.
To get set for the first showdown between these two programs this season, here's a look at some of the numbers that define this all-time great series:
3 - The number of consecutive wins Duke has mounted against North Carolina. Overall, the Blue Devils have won 10 of the last 13 meetings with the Tar Heels.
16.4 - The number of points North Carolina forward Brice Johnson is averaging per game. Johnson, UNC's leading scorer, does most of his damage around the basket and is easily Roy Williams' most consistent scoring option.
52.8 - Grayson Allen's field goal percentage in Duke's wins this season. The streaky sophomore has shot just 37 percent in Duke's losses, which is a considerable swing from co-star Brandon Ingram. Allen's wing mate is shooting 48 percent in wins, and 45.8 percent in losses.
83 - The number of points both teams put up per game. However, North Carolina holds the slight scoring edge, as the Tar Heels are averaging 83.8 points, while the Blue Devils are posting 83.4.
6 - The number of blocked shots Duke forward Amile Jefferson recorded against the Heels in February 2015, tied for the most by any Duke player against UNC in a single game. Jefferson won't be blocking any shots Wednesday, however, as the senior remains sidelined by a foot injury.
20 - The total number of points scored against UNC last year by Duke players still with the team. Jefferson - who won't play - Allen, Matt Jones, and Marshall Plumlee were responsible for the points in two matchups.
25 - The number of times Roy Williams and Mike Krzyzewski have coached against each other since Williams took over as head coach at UNC. Coach K holds a 15-10 head-to-head advantage.
240 - The number of times the Tar Heels and Blue Devils have met in the past. North Carolina leads the all-time series 133-107.
0 - The number of times these cherished programs have collided in the NCAA tournament.
