San Francisco fires head coach Rex Walters

San Francisco head coach Rex Walters has been dismissed.

Athletic director Scott Sidwell announced the news on Wednesday. Walters has been at the helm of the Dons' basketball program for eight years.

"I'd like to thank Coach Walters for his eight years of service to the University of San Francisco and our men's basketball program," Sidwell said. "However, I felt a change in the leadership of the program was necessary at this time in order for us to progress towards our goal of winning a conference championship and compete in postseason play on a regular basis."

In his time, Walters compiled a 127-127 overall record. Prior to that, he spent two seasons as the head coach at Florida Atlantic.

It's unclear who will succeed him.
