TCU hires Pitt's Jamie Dixon as head coach
It's the end of an era at Pitt.
Three days after the Panthers got bounced from the NCAA tournament, head coach Jamie Dixon has accepted an offer to take the same position at TCU, the school announced.
Financial terms of Dixon's contract were not disclosed, but athletic director Chris Del Conte confirmed he received a six-year deal.
Dixon was rumored to be considering an offer from the Horned Frogs on Sunday, and speculation ramped up over the last 24 hours that a deal would come together quickly.
Dixon spent the previous 13 seasons guiding the Panthers, and led them to 11 appearances in the NCAA tournament. However, Dixon's importance to the program was a topic of division among Pitt faithful, and it appears the school made little effort to prevent his move to the Big 12.
Despite compiling a 328-123 record at Pitt, Dixon's Panthers hadn't reached the Sweet Sixteen since 2009, when the team made a run to the Elite Eight.
He now returns to the school he played for from 1984-1987, and will attempt to lead the Frogs back to Round 1 of the Big Dance for the first time since 1998.
TCU fired Trent Johnson one week ago, following a substandard three-year stint.
