Stanford has named UAB's Jerod Haase its new head coach, the school confirmed Friday.

"I have no doubt that Jerod will soon lead our program to Pac-12 championships and that we will be a regular participant in the NCAA Tournament," athletic director Bernard Muir said. "He will win with integrity, class, and sportsmanship while ensuring our student-athletes reach their full potential in their academic and social endeavors.”

Haase, a former assistant under Roy Williams at both Kansas and North Carolina, was the head coach at UAB for the past four seasons, compiling an 80-53 record.

A report surfaced Thursday that the Cardinal were interested in Haase, but were also eyeing former Stanford standout Brevin Knight for the role.

Stanford has missed the NCAA tournament the last two seasons, so Haase will have some work to do to get the program back on track.
