LSU fathers revive elderly man at CWS
Two fathers, one of LSU pitcher Jared Poche and the other a dad of LSU strength coach Travis Roy, saved the life of a fan during Game 1 of the College World Series in Omaha, Neb., on Monday.
A man, estimated to be in his 80s fell unconscious in the stands during LSU's contest against Florida before Dr. Jerry Poche and firefighter Jimmy Roy came to his rescue, performing CPR and saving his life.
"The man died," Dr. Poche said, according to Luke Johnson of The Baton Rouge Advocate. "He didn't have a pulse. He didn't have nothing. It looks like, luckily, we got him back."
Dr. Poche said he believed the elderly man, who collapsed during the sixth inning, had a heart attack. He was in stable condition when paramedics arrived and was later transported to hospital.
"The main thing is, when he left in the stretcher, he was conscious and nobody was doing compressions," Dr. Poche explained. "It looked like he was going to make it. They brought him to the emergency room and I talked to the senior paramedic over here at TD Ameritrade, and he said the old man is stable. That's awesome."
