Texas A&M names Trevor Knight starting quarterback
If there was any question about who would start at quarterback for Texas A&M, it's now been answered.
The Aggies announced Monday that Trevor Knight, the senior transfer from Oklahoma, will open the 2016 season as the team's starting quarterback, barring injury. Knight was competing with Jake Hubenak for the job.
Knight spent last year backing up Baker Mayfield, but was the Sooners' starter in the previous two seasons. Two years ago, the former Sugar Bowl MVP threw for 2,300 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions in 10 games.
Hubenak, meanwhile, began last season as the Aggies' third-string quarterback, but finished the campaign as the starter after Kyle Allen and Kyler Murray received their releases to transfer.
Texas A&M begins the new season on Sept. 3 against UCLA.
