Mullen believes Simmons' fate will be decided by week's end
The saga of incoming Mississippi State four-star recruit Jeffery Simmons is expected to come to a head this week, according to Michael Bonner of The Clarion-Ledger.
Simmons' status as a Bulldog has been in limbo since he was arrested and charged with assault at the end of March. The charges stemmed from the emergence of a video in which Simmons is seen standing over a woman and striking her repeatedly.
Bulldogs head coach Dan Mullen told reporters that he expects Simmons' status to be known by the end of the week. A university spokesperson referred to the school's official statement when questioned about Simmons' enrollment, which states, "We are close to a resolution but still have some manners to resolve."
Simmons declined a request for comment made by The Clarion-Ledger on Tuesday night. He is currently awaiting his court date scheduled for June 14 in Macon, Georgia.
