Miami (Ohio) lands grad transfer Mark Meyers from Michigan State
Michigan State has now lost two defensive backs in the span of 24 hours.
Safety Mark Meyers has elected to leave the Spartans, choosing instead to join Miami (Ohio) as a graduate transfer, according to Matt Wenzel of Mlive.com. Meyers will be immediately eligible to play for the RedHawks in 2016.
"Mark Meyers has done everything we asked of him during this process," Spartans head coach Mark Dantonio said Thursday. "He graduated this year and has done a good job in the classroom during his time here in East Lansing, earning Academic All-Big Ten honors (in 2014). He was looking for a new opportunity on the football field in his final season, and by earning his degree, he'll have that opportunity this year as a graduate transfer."
The 6-foot, 185-pound safety appeared in 33 games during his tenure with the Spartans, which included a six game suspension last season for an impaired driving arrest. Meyers recorded 17 tackles and one forced fumble over his career thus far.
Michigan State also gave cornerback Jermaine Edmondson his full release to transfer elsewhere, creating multiple holes in the Spartans' secondary heading into the 2016 season.
