Saturday is turning out to be a special day for the McCartney family.
Former Colorado head coach Bill McCartney is on hand at the Big House to watch the Buffaloes battle Michigan, and got to see his grandson, Derek, return a fumble for a touchdown in the first quarter.
Michigan is a special place for McCartney, who was an assistant for the Wolverines from 1974-1981 and was the Colorado head coach in 1994, when Kordell Stewart's famous hail mary silenced Michigan Stadium.
McCartney is best remembered for guiding the Buffaloes to a shared national championship in 1990, as well as being the subject of a recent ESPN 30 for 30 documentary entitled "The Gospel According to Mac."
The 76-year-old was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in August.
