Defensively, with the Spartans driving late in the game, Peppers sacked Brian Lewerke to force a turnover on downs.

Then, after the Spartans scored a touchdown with a second left on the clock and attempting a two-point conversion, Peppers picked up the loose ball and returned it for the two-point defensive score.
