No happy memories for Kiffin at Alabama, just 'ass chewings'

After hitting rock bottom four years ago, Alabama offensive coordinator and new Florida Atlantic head coach Lane Kiffin has climbed back up to achieve success.

However, he doesn't remember much of the past three years, which includes three conference championships, potentially two national championships, and a Heisman winner.

"I don't recall a happy moment. I just recall the ass chewings," Kiffin said of his three years in Tuscaloosa at Wednesday's press conference.

Alabama's Nick Saban is synonymous with "the process" and treating every day no different than the next, something Kiffin has learned during his time working with the legendary head coach.

"When you talk about the process, every day is the same. I think as a young coach, you had so many highs and lows," Kiffin explained "(Saban) said to me before, 'Lane, I can take good news, I can take bad news, but don't give me surprises.' So I think that really explains a lot of the process."

It was speculated that Kiffin and Saban's time together had run its course and Kiffin needed to find a new job once the season ended, leading to his hiring as the Owls new head coach.

However, Kiffin again debunked that rumor Wednesday.

"When I was down at the press conference (in Boca Raton), a lot of the questions were about that," Kiffin said on him being pushed out at Alabama. "It seemed like, okay, he just took a head job because he wanted to be a head coach or it wasn't working at Alabama.

"I don't know where that comes from, out there that the Alabama thing was over and the Saban/Kiffin marriage kind of ran its course. It was three years. Coach (Saban) has been great to me. He's never said anything but excited about coming back next year prior to this job."
