West Virginia's William Crest Jr. to transfer out of program

Ben Queen-USA TODAY Sports

West Virginia will be taking William Crest Jr.'s name off the depth chart for next season, as the redshirt sophomore quarterback is leaving the program.

West Virginia confirmed Crest's departure in an announcement posted to the school's website.

"Will is an outstanding young man who always represented the Mountaineer football program well and was a great teammate," head coach Dana Holgorsen said. "He told me he wanted to pursue his football career and education at another institution, and I support him and wish him nothing but the best with his future plans."

After receiving a medical redshirt in 2014, Crest appeared in 11 games in 2015 at both quarterback and wide receiver, but only managed to appear in West Virginia's first two games of last season.
