'Rudy' sells Notre Dame jersey, helmet for $241K

The man responsible for arguably the most memorable sack by a Notre Dame player has sold the jersey and helmet that made him famous.
Rudy Ruettiger, the inspiration behind the 1993 film "Rudy," auctioned off the jersey and helmet he wore during his only appearance for Notre Dame - on Nov. 8, 1975 against Georgia Tech - for a total of $241,500, according to The Chicago Tribune.
Ruettiger decided to sell the mementos after they sat in his father's storage for years, and figuring the gear should go to someone who will appreciate it.
Ruettiger - a longtime scout team member who dressed for only one game - recorded a sack on the last play of his senior season and was subsequently carried off the field by teammates.
