Herman on D-line: We’d know a lot more if these fat guys lost some weight
It seems new Texas head coach Tom Herman's first order of business this spring will be developing defensive linemen, if the Longhorns want any chance of competing in 2017.
"We've got to find some D-lineman," Herman told reporters in the lead up to Texas' first spring practice Tuesday, as shared by Brian Davis of The Austin American-Statesman. "I'm worried about that group through the winter offseason. (They) didn't perform that well."
Texas ranked 76th, tied with Kent State, in rush defense in 2016, though the Longhorns were fifth in sacks.
"I think we’d know a lot more if a lot of these fat guys lost some weight," Herman continued. "I've seen (defensive coordinator) Todd Orlando make chicken salad out of some lesser parts. So I have confidence in that staff."
