Nebraska fires Mike Riley after 4-8 season

Nebraska fired head coach Mike Riley following its 4-8 season, the program announced Saturday.

The 2017 campaign provided Nebraska's worst record since 1961 when the team went 3-6-1.

Riley took over for Bo Pelini as coach in 2015, finishing his tenure with a 19-19 record over three seasons after coming to the program from Oregon State.

"Mike Riley has brought tremendous professionalism and energy to the Nebraska football program, but unfortunately, those attributes have not translated to on-field success," Nebraska athletic director Bill Moos said in a press release Saturday. "After a thorough review of all aspects of our football program, I have chosen to move in a different direction."
