Tennessee fails to win SEC game for 1st time in school history

Tennessee wrapped up its SEC schedule winless Saturday for the first time in program history, getting whacked at home 42-24 to Vanderbilt to, mercifully, end the season.
The Volunteers ended the campaign losing seven of their final eight games, and got all four of their victories in 2017 against non-conference opponents.
| Opponent | Score |
|---|---|
| Florida | 26-20 |
| Georgia | 41-0 |
| South Carolina | 15-9 |
| Alabama | 45-7 |
| Kentucky | 29-26 |
| Missouri | 50-17 |
| LSU | 30-10 |
| Vanderbilt | 42-24 |
With a 4-8 record overall, Tennessee won't be eligible for a bowl game, and will instead turn its attention toward finding a new head coach. The Vols fired Butch Jones midseason, and finished out the year with Brady Hoke serving as the interim head coach.
Tennessee had never lost eight games in a single season until this year.
