Report: Supposedly fired Tennessee AD Currie still earning $75K monthly
Despite reportedly being fired as athletic director at Tennessee in December, John Currie is still pulling in a hefty salary, and he's looking for more.
Currie is earning $75,000 a month on paid suspension while the program searches for a reason to fire him with cause after he was replaced by former football coach Phillip Fulmer, according to Blake Toppmeyer of the Knoxville News Sentinel.
If cause cannot be found for the suspended director, Currie's contract buyout calls for him to be paid $100,000 per month (or $1.2 million annually) through June 2022.
Currie was hired in February 2017 and was dismissed in December after a botched search for a new head football coach.
According to a national expert on NCAA matters who spoke with Toppmeyer, the two sides are likely to agree on a settlement.
