Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa underwent surgery Tuesday evening after breaking his index finger at spring practice earlier that day, his father told KHON2's Rob DeMello.
The ailment cost Tagovailoa a day of practice, but he returned to the field Thursday in a limited capacity.
The sophomore, who was the hero of the national championship game last season, is battling with junior Jalen Hurts for top spot on the Crimson Tide's depth chart.
