Virginia made a splash in the 2019 recruiting cycle Friday, as four-star defensive tackle Jowon Briggs committed to the Cavaliers, he announced via Twitter.
The 6-foot-2, 290-pounder is the 11th-ranked defensive tackle in the 2019 class and the No. 86 overall prospect on the ESPN 300. Briggs is also the second-ranked player from Ohio.
The Cincinnati native held offers from a number of big-time programs across the country, including Alabama, Ohio State, Tennessee, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Penn State, but opted to join Virginia.
Briggs is the Cavaliers' top recruit from the 2019 cycle to date, and their first ESPN 300 commitment.
