UCLA starting quarterback Wilton Speight left Saturday's season opener against Cincinnati and went to the locker room with an undisclosed injury.

Speight went down after a scramble in the second quarter and did not return for the start of the second half. Trainers were examining his lower back before the quarterback walked to the locker room, according to Hanson Wang of the Daily Bruin.

Freshman Dorian Thompson-Robinson replaced the Bruins starter.

The former Michigan pivot has a history of back injuries. He injured his lower back last September, which ended his 2017 season.

Speight transferred to UCLA as a graduate in April and new head coach Chip Kelly named him the starting quarterback. He was 8-of-12 for 45 yards and an interception against the Bearcats before leaving the game.
