Report: Texas trying to convince McCoy to not go back to USC
Texas appears to be pulling out all the stops to keep incoming four-star freshman Bru McCoy in Austin.
Longhorns coach Tom Herman, wide receivers coach Drew Mehringer, starting quarterback Sam Ehlinger, and director of player development Kevin Washington traveled to Los Angeles on Wednesday to meet with McCoy and attempted to convince the wide receiver to not transfer back to USC, according to Ben Kercheval of CBS Sports.
McCoy, the No. 1-ranked athlete in the 2019 ESPN 300, originally committed to the Trojans but bolted for Texas after Kliff Kingsbury agreed to become the Arizona Cardinals' head coach. After experiencing "deep homesickness," however, the Santa Ana, Calif., native is considering another transfer.
The 27th-ranked overall prospect has yet to make an official decision but participated in spring practices with the Longhorns.
Texas had been pursuing a waiver from the NCAA that would have allowed McCoy to play in 2019. As of Wednesday, the receiver had yet to sign the waiver.
