Williams to rejoin Kansas after 7-month suspension
Kansas running back Pooka Williams Jr. was cleared to rejoin the team on Monday following his seventh-month suspension for a domestic battery charge, according to KSNT News' Sully Engels.
However, Williams will sit out the Jayhawks' season opener against Indiana State on Aug. 31 due to the suspension.
A woman said in December that Williams punched her in the stomach and grabbed her by the throat.
"Pooka's behavior last December was unacceptable as a member of any community, especially our university community," athletic director Jeff Long said in a statement, according to Engels. "As a result, Kansas Athletics suspended Pooka from the football program in December when serious allegations were first brought forward and he has remained suspended until now.
"During that time, he has gone through an extensive legal process as well as a comprehensive university conduct process, both resulting in sanctions and penalties."
Williams rushed for 1,125 yards and seven touchdowns last year. He also hauled in 33 passes for 289 yards and two more touchdowns.
