After losing the quarterback battle at Miami, Tate Martell experimented by playing wide receiver during Friday's practice, a source told Manny Navarro of The Athletic.
It's unclear if Martell is committed to a permanent position switch.
Martell transferred to Miami in January after two years of backup duties at Ohio State. Once hailed as a can't-miss prospect after a prolific high school career in the state of Nevada, he struggled to move up the Buckeyes' depth chart before heading to The U.
Martell was widely viewed as the overwhelming favorite to win the Hurricanes' starting job but lost the preseason competition to redshirt freshman Jarren Williams.
The Canes face Florida in their Aug. 24 season opener.
