California quarterback Chase Garbers is out long term after sustaining an injury, head coach Justin Wilcox said Monday, according to Jeff Faraudo of SI.com.
Wilcox left the door open for Garbers to return before the year is up. The coach didn't provide any specifics about the nature of the ailment, but it's believed to be an upper-body injury.
Garbers was injured in the second quarter of Friday's game against Arizona State, leaving the game and returning with his right arm in a sling.
The sophomore had completed 59% of his passes on the season for 952 yards, eight touchdowns, and two interceptions before the injury.
Junior transfer Devon Modster is expected to take over at starting quarterback.
