Mark Richt says he suffered heart attack

Former Miami and Georgia head coach Mark Richt says he suffered a heart attack Monday morning but is doing well.

"I am assuming word travels fast," he wrote on Twitter. "So I wanted to be able to inform everyone that I did have a heart attack this morning. I am doing fine. As I went through the experience, I had peace knowing I was going to heaven, but I was going to miss my wife. I plan to be at work this week."

Richt, 59, retired in December 2018 after his third season coaching at Miami, his alma mater. He joined ESPN as an analyst following his farewell from the Hurricanes.

Before his pit stop at Miami, Richt spent 15 years at Georgia, where he guided the Bulldogs to a pair of SEC titles.

Richt retired with a 171-64 career record.
