The Boise State Broncos and Washington Huskies meet on Dec. 21 in the Las Vegas Bowl for one of the more underrated postseason matchups. Here's everything you need to know about the game from a betting perspective.

Line movement

Washington opened as a 3-point favorite, which hung around for a while before being pushed past the key number and up to -3.5. The total hasn't seen much action, opening at 49.5 and hitting 50 in some shops.

Betting breakdown

To say Washington underachieved this season would be an understatement. The Huskies finished the campaign 7-5 and watched Oregon and Utah duke it out for the Pac-12 crown. Three of those losses in the regular season came to Stanford, Colorado, and Cal, who were all double-digit underdogs to the Huskies.

Boise State stamped the envelope on a 12-1 season with a win over Hawaii in the conference title game. The only concern for the Broncos heading into the bowl is their strength of schedule, or lack thereof - they ranked No. 81 in that department, while Washington was at No. 27. There's a reason the 12-1 team is catching points.

The Broncos rarely close as 'dogs, but when they do, they come through. They've covered each of their last seven games in this spot. Meanwhile, Washington has covered just one of its last five bowl games.

X-factor

Washington still closed out the season with better metrics than its record would indicate. The Huskies finished No. 23 in SP+ offense and No. 27 in defense. This is crucial, because Boise State allowed an average of 17 points per game against offenses in the back half of the nation in SP+ this season, and north of 30 against offenses in the top half. The Huskies played a tough schedule of opposing defenses, including two in the top 15 of SP+. If Boise State's defense doesn't come out ready to go, Washington could score at will with quarterback Jacob Eason leading the charge.

Pick

Washington team total over 26.5

This feels like a nice little gift before Christmas even gets here. Washington averaged 31.5 points per game in the Power Five and now gets a Mountain West team that, despite being a mid-major powerhouse, had its lapses defensively this season. Eason will be the best quarterback Boise has seen all season and he has more than enough matchup edges on the outside to get the Huskies over the team total.
