NCAA allows Lawrence's fundraiser for COVID-19 victims

Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence and his girlfriend, Marissa Mowry, are now allowed to continue with their fundraiser for coronavirus victims.

The duo's GoFundMe page was initially deactivated based on orders from Clemson's compliance department, according to Grace Raynor of The Athletic.

However, the NCAA says the fundraiser can go forward. The organization contacted Clemson's athletic department on Tuesday to give the OK.

"We continue to work with member schools so they have the flexibility to ensure that student-athletes and communities impacted by this illness are supported, and we applaud Trevor for his efforts," read an NCAA statement obtained by Scott Keepfer of Greenville News.

"Trevor would now be permitted to do this fundraiser if he chooses," added Jeff Kallin, Clemson's associate AD for communications.

Lawrence and Mowry, who plays soccer at Anderson University, had raised $2,670 before the page was shut down. NCAA rules usually prohibit student-athletes from using their name, image, and likeness for crowdfunding.

Lawrence, who has already built a storied football career at Clemson, is favored to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
