Minnesota received its first major boost in the 2021 recruiting class, as four-star cornerback Avante Dickerson announced his commitment to the Golden Gophers on Friday.

Dickerson is the 46th overall prospect in the ESPN 300 and the fourth-ranked cornerback in his class.

The Omaha, Nebraska, native held offers from a number of big-time programs across the country, including LSU, Ohio State, Penn State, and USC. He also chose Minnesota instead of staying in his home state and playing for Nebraska.

Dickerson represents the highest-ranked commitment in the 2021 class for head coach P.J. Fleck. The Golden Gophers failed to land any top-100 recruits from the 2020 cycle.
