Oklahoma running back Kennedy Brooks will opt out of the 2020 season, sources told Jason Kersey of The Athletic.

Brooks, who rushed for 2,067 yards and 18 touchdowns over the last two seasons, informed Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley of his decision Sunday afternoon.

The running back's decision leaves Oklahoma with a highly inexperienced backfield.

Rhamondre Stevenson is set to miss the first several games due to an NCAA suspension and Trey Sermon transferred to Ohio State this spring.

The Sooners will start the year with junior T.J. Pledger, redshirt freshman Marcus Major, and true freshman Seth McGowan atop their depth chart.

Oklahoma announced on Saturday nine positive COVID-19 cases among its players after a week off from practice. Despite the outbreak, Riley said he remains confident in the school's ability to protect its players.

The Big 12, SEC, and ACC are attempting to play their fall seasons as planned, while the Pac-12 and Big Ten have pivoted to spring campaigns.
