Mac Jones beats out Bryce Young for Alabama's QB job
Alabama will start Mac Jones at quarterback over highly touted freshman Bryce Young in its season opener Saturday versus Missouri.
"Mac has had a really good camp," head coach Nick Saban said Monday, according to ESPN's Alex Scarborough. "Really played well in the last scrimmage. Did a good job of taking the leadership role. I think he's playing with a lot of confidence."
Jones will keep the job he held to finish last season after Tua Tagovailoa dislocated his hip. The redshirt junior completed 68.8% of his pass attempts and threw for 1,503 yards with 14 touchdowns and three interceptions over parts of 11 games in 2019.
Young had a shot at the starting job after arriving in Tuscaloosa as the top-ranked quarterback prospect in the 2020 recruiting class.
Under Saban, Alabama has often played multiple quarterbacks early in the season before settling on one full-time signal-caller.
