Every week during the college football season, we'll be recapping what you may have missed over the weekend.
Here's what stood out from a betting perspective following Week 5.
Buy low on Auburn's offense
Georgia's defense made Auburn's offense look like a junior varsity unit, as the Tigers couldn't find the end zone in Saturday's 27-6 loss.
Auburn brought in offensive coordinator Chad Morris to groom second-year quarterback Bo Nix, but it doesn't look like much has changed. The dual-threat passer averaged a paltry 8.4 yards per completion and compiled just 8 yards on the ground in the defeat.
Auburn's not a team I'm in love with heading forward, but there's so much potential in the skill corps that I have to wait around a little bit longer. Receivers Anthony Schwartz and Seth Williams are good athletes who can shatter a total by themselves.
Nix has some really good opportunities to pad his team's stats in the next month, as his Tigers play Arkansas, South Carolina, and Ole Miss over the next three weeks.
How can you play Pitt over the total?
Pittsburgh bench boss Pat Narduzzi is a defensive-minded coach. Apparently, that means his team is allergic to scoring points.
The Panthers couldn't crack 30 against an NC State defense that surrendered 87 combined points the last two weeks against Wake Forest and a Virginia Tech team down its starting quarterback.
Granted, Pitt cashed the over this past Saturday. But buyer beware if you're thinking about going back to the well.
Pitt's offense connected on a 75-yard touchdown on the second play of the game, then went punt, punt, punt, field goal, field goal, turnover on downs, and punt during their next seven possessions. The Panthers scored three times to end the game but it wasn't enough, as they lost as 14-point favorites.
Pitt totals will be low all year thanks to an elite defense, but don't get suckered in; the team's play-calling and skill corps leave a lot to be desired.
UNC overs are coming
North Carolina and Boston College combined for more than 750 total yards but couldn't top the 50-point mark. The Tar Heels came into the year as a team to watch but the offense has yet to really start humming. The club mustered just five points in the second half against an Eagles squad that nearly lost to Texas State the week prior. Overall, North Carolina has sailed under the total in both games to start the year.
Tar Heel totals might start dropping a couple of points, but now's not the time to freak out. They'll get a couple of track meet-style contests in the very near future, whether that be against Virginia Tech, NC State, Wake Forest, or Virginia.
