Swinney not thinking about Texans' HC job: 'Next question'

After the Houston Texans fired Bill O'Brien on Monday, many pointed to Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney as an ideal replacement due to his time with quarterback Deshaun Watson.

However, Swinney quickly dispelled any rumors connecting the two.

"I have not heard from Deshaun and that is not even anything that I want to even have to think about," he said before laughing, according to Matt Young of the Houston Chronicle.

"You don't want to ask anything about (Clemson's next opponent) Miami?" he continued. "Next question."

Swinney spent three seasons as Watson's coach with the Tigers from 2014-2016. The duo captured a national title in the quarterback's final collegiate campaign.

The 50-year-old bench boss is also said to have a relationship with Texans executive vice president of football operations Jack Easterby, per Young.

O'Brien was relieved of his duties after an 0-4 start to the 2020 season. Assistant head coach Romeo Crennel will serve as Houston's interim coach.

Prying Swinney away from Clemson would prove to be a difficult task for the Texans if the team expressed interest. He's currently college football's highest-paid coach at $9.3 million per year.
