Shane Beamer, the son of legendary Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer, was announced as South Carolina's newest head coach Sunday.

Beamer has been at Oklahoma since 2018, coaching tight ends and running backs while serving as the assistant head coach for offense to Lincoln Riley.

The 43-year-old worked at South Carolina from 2007-10, coaching cornerbacks, linebackers, and special teams over that time. He's worked with offensive and defensive position groups over his career and was a special teams coordinator at Georgia in addition to South Carolina.

The Gamecocks began searching for a new head coach after firing Will Muschamp on Nov. 15. They played to a 28-30 record over four-plus seasons with Muschamp in charge.

Louisville's Scott Satterfield and Louisiana's Billy Napier were among the other candidates for the South Carolina job, but both announced Saturday they are staying at their respective schools.

South Carolina hasn't reached double digits in wins since 2013 when Steve Spurrier was at the helm.
