Texas A&M picked up a big commitment on Saturday when DeSoto High School defensive end Shemar Turner chose the Aggies over offers from Alabama, Georgia, and LSU.

Turner is the fifth-ranked defensive end on the ESPN 300 and the 37th overall prospect. He is considered a five-star prospect and the 31st overall recruit in the 2021 class by 247Sports.

The DeSoto, Texas, native was named to the Under Armour All-America game and was a first-team all-district selection as a junior in high school.

He became the 18th commit for head coach Jimbo Fisher - and the eighth ESPN 300 recruit. He joins a blue-chip list of prospects that includes wide receiver Shadrach Banks, athlete/corner Jordan Norwood, and offensive tackle Reuben Fatheree II.

Texas A&M will attempt to build on its momentum ahead of the early signing period beginning on Dec. 16.
