Report: Alabama considering Gase, O'Brien as next OC
It appears Nick Saban is eyeing former NFL bosses to complete his 2021 staff.
Alabama is considering former New York Jets head coach Adam Gase and former Houston Texans coach and general manager Bill O'Brien to be the team's next offensive coordinator, a source told The Athletic's Bruce Feldman.
The Crimson Tide will be looking for a new OC after Steve Sarkisian became head coach at Texas on Saturday.
Both Gase and O'Brien were fired by their respective NFL clubs after unsuccessful 2020 campaigns.
Gase spent three years with LSU from 2000 to 2002 as a graduate assistant, recruiting assistant, and defensive assistant. O'Brien coached Penn State from 2012 to 2013 before joining the Texans in 2014.
Saban has added multiple former head coaches to his staff as assistants in recent years, including Sarkisian, Charlie Strong, Mike Stoops, Major Applewhite, and Butch Jones.
Alabama fielded one of the most dynamic offenses in college football history under Sarkisian and will play in the national title game against Ohio State next Monday.
