Ohio State's Day 'definitely' expects Fields to play in national title game
Ohio State head coach Ryan Day believes star quarterback Justin Fields will be ready for next Monday's national championship game against Alabama, according to Colin Hass-Hill of Eleven Warriors.
"I definitely expect him to play, but we don't get into specifics on injuries," said Day.
Fields took a hard hit in the back from Clemson linebacker James Skalski during Friday's Sugar Bowl, but he was able to finish the game. Skalski was ejected for the play.
The quarterback was clearly in discomfort for the remainder of the matchup and said he took pain-killing shots.
Despite the hit, Fields put together arguably the best performance of his career, finishing the playoff contest with six passing touchdowns and 427 total yards.
He's widely expected to declare for the 2021 NFL Draft after the national title game, and Fields could be a top-three selection.
