Report: Ohio State mired in COVID-19 woes that could delay CFP final
The College Football Playoff National Championship could be postponed one week with Ohio State battling significant COVID-19 issues, sources told John Talty and Matt Zenitz of AL.com.
The Buckeyes, who faced a number of coronavirus-related setbacks in recent weeks, reportedly made it known they may be down an entire position group because of testing and protocols if the game proceeds Jan. 11 as scheduled.
The CFP previously established Jan. 18 as a makeup date should the national title game be pushed back. The Buckeyes are gearing up to meet Alabama for the championship at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Ohio State doesn't have enough issues to prompt a postponement, sources told Yahoo Sports' Pete Thamel.
"Game is still on," Buckeyes athletic director Gene Smith texted Kyle Rowland of the Toledo Blade. "We continue to follow the same protocols as we have all season. Our goal is to play January 11th!"
Ohio State defeated Clemson in the Sugar Bowl to reach the final.
