Clemson extends offensive coordinator Tony Elliott through 2026
The Clemson board of trustees approved a three-year extension for offensive coordinator Tony Elliott that will increase his annual salary to $2 million per season, according to Andrea Adelson of ESPN.
Elliott receives a $300,000 raise that will go into effect on July 1. The new deal runs until Jan. 31, 2026.
The 41-year-old also adds the title of assistant head coach and will be the team’s tight ends coach moving forward.
The announcement comes after reports of Tennessee attempting to lure the offensive play-caller from Death Valley.
"We were so happy to retain coach Elliott," Clemson athletic director Dan Radakovich said, according to Matt Connolly of TheState.com. "He had opportunities, but we wanted to make sure that he stayed here."
The Tigers now boast two of the highest-paid assistant coaches in the nation. Clemson’s defensive coordinator Brent Venables earns $2.4 million per season, the highest salary for any assistant in college football.
Meanwhile, a Clemson legend will replace Elliot as the team’s running backs coach, as 2021 College Football Hall of Famer C.J. Spiller will take over the position after serving as an unpaid coaching intern in 2020.
Mickey Conn will take over as special teams coordinator. He’ll replace Danny Pearman, who is now the director of football scouting.
