Michigan lands grad transfer Bowman, 4-star recruit Johnson

Michigan picked up two major commitments Sunday.

Grosse Pointe South High School cornerback Will Johnson announced his commitment to the Wolverines, who also landed Texas Tech graduate transfer Alan Bowman.

Johnson is rated by ESPN as the 2022 recruiting class' No. 29 overall recruit and top prospect from the state of Michigan. He's the fourth-ranked cornerback.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound talent chose Michigan over Ohio State and USC, among others. Johnson's father, Deon, played for the Wolverines from 1991-92.

Bowman, meanwhile, brings much-needed experience to a Michigan quarterback group comprised of holdover Cade McNamara and freshman J.J. McCarthy. Bowman passed for 5,260 yards, 33 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions while completing 67% of his throws in parts of three seasons with Texas Tech from 2018-20.

Apart from retaining head coach Jim Harbaugh, the Wolverines have made extensive changes to their staff this offseason, adding new faces at nearly every coaching position.

Michigan is hoping to change course after posting a disappointing 2-4 record in a conference-only schedule last season.
