Oregon names Anthony Brown starting QB
Oregon named Anthony Brown its starting quarterback ahead of the season opener against Fresno State on Sept. 4, according to The Oregonian’s James Crepea.
Brown beat out freshmen Ty Thompson, Jay Butterfield, and Robby Ashford.
The senior signal-caller will return under center for his second season with the Ducks. The New Jersey native joined Oregon as a graduate transfer after leaving Boston College.
Brown passed for 164 yards and two touchdowns in two appearances last season, completing 65% of his pass attempts. He also added 40 rushing yards and two scores.
The 6-foot-3, 226-pound pivot racked up 4,738 passing yards and 40 touchdowns to 20 interceptions in three seasons with the Eagles.
Brown has been considered the front-runner to replace former starter Tyler Shough, who transferred to Texas Tech this offseason.
