Jaguars' Meyer: 'No chance' I'm leaving for USC job

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer shot down speculation that he may leave the NFL for the vacant coaching job at USC.

"There's no chance. I'm here and committed to try and build an organization," Meyer said at a press conference Wednesday.

USC fired coach Clay Helton on Monday, just two games into his seventh season at the helm.

Despite its current run of mediocrity, USC remains one of the most high-profile programs in college football.

Meyer is one of the most successful coaches in college football history. In 17 years, he accumulated a 187-32 record and won three national championships, two with Florida and one with Ohio State.

He stepped down at Ohio State after the 2018 season and spent two years out of football before making the leap to the professional ranks with the Jaguars.

However, following Jacksonville's poor performance in a 37-21 loss to the Houston Texans in Week 1, rumors swirled that Meyer could abandon ship for the Trojans job.

In his statement on Helton's firing, USC athletic director Mike Bohn said he intends to find a coach who "will deliver on the championship aspirations and expectations we all share for our football program."
