Harbaugh on Day: 'Some people were born on 3rd and think they hit a triple'
Michigan's Jim Harbaugh seemingly served Ryan Day a slice of humble pie Saturday after getting the better of his Ohio State coaching counterpart for the first time.
Day, who blew out Michigan in the 2019 installment of The Game, once said he aspired to "hang 100" points on the Wolverines. The two schools didn't square off in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Some people were born on third and think they hit a triple," Harbaugh said, according to Nicole Auerbach of The Athletic.
Day had owned the Big Ten since taking over at Ohio State, winning back-to-back league titles without ever losing a conference game. He inherited the program in 2019 from Urban Meyer, who built the Buckeyes into a national powerhouse.
Harbaugh began his Michigan tenure with five straight losses to Ohio State before making good on his sixth try. He and the Wolverines will battle for the Big Ten championship on Dec. 4 in Indianapolis.
"These guys have been disrespecting us, stepping on our jerseys, talking about hanging 100 on us, doing all that rah-rah, doing all that talk," said senior defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, who sacked C.J. Stroud three times Saturday. "But we were about it today."
Running back Hassan Haskins powered the Wolverines' offense, rushing for 169 yards and five touchdowns on 28 carries. He tormented a Buckeyes squad that entered the contest with the FBS' 11th-ranked rush defense.
"They thought they saw a ghost," Harbaugh said. "They didn't. It was No. 25, Hassan Haskins."
Michigan prevailed over Ohio State for only the second time in its last 17 meetings.
