Grambling State hired former Baylor head coach Art Briles as the team's offensive coordinator under head coach Hue Jackson, a school spokesperson confirmed to The Athletic's Chris Vannini.
Briles hasn't coached in the NCAA since Baylor fired him in 2016. The school found him responsible for a number of sexual assault complaints against players that were mishandled during his tenure.
Baylor went 65-37 and won two Big 12 championships under Briles between 2008 and 2015, making him one of the winningest coaches in program history. The Bears featured high-octane offenses under his watch.
The 66-year-old has coached at Mount Vernon High School in Texas and in an Italian football league since the Baylor scandal. He was expected to coach in the CFL as an offensive assistant with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2017, but backlash from the public and league led the club to nix the agreement.
Grambling State is heading into its first campaign under Jackson, who previously served as the head coach of the Cleveland Browns. The Tigers went 4-7 last season and fired Broderick Forbes as their head coach before the end of the campaign.
