Report: Urban Meyer hasn't spoken with Nebraska, expected to stay at Fox
The Urban Meyer-to-Nebraska buzz just took a big hit.
Meyer has had no contact with Nebraska and is expected to stay at Fox and pass on coaching opportunities, according to Pete Thamel of ESPN.
Nebraska reached out to Meyer, CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd reported Saturday, but it was unknown if Meyer engaged in conversation.
The Cornhuskers will cast a wide net for candidates to take over the head coaching job after firing Scott Frost last Sunday. Athletic director Trev Alberts cautioned fans that not all names that come out in the media are candidates.
"You're gonna hear about a lot of names. That's good," Alberts said. "That means we're going to talk to a lot of people because we're going to clearly define what our values are, and we're not going to hire coaches who don't believe in what we believe in."
The Jacksonville Jaguars fired Meyer during the 2021 season after he led them to a 2-11 record. His tenure was filled with controversy, including receiving a $100,000 fine from the NFL for violating practice rules during organized team activities.
